HOYTS - Docklands - Melbourne … CATHS visit Saturday 23 March 2019

Saturday 23 March saw about 15 CATHS members make their way to the Melbourne retail precinct of Docklands to inspect the newly opened (Dec 2018) Hoyts 8 screen multiplex.

The complex’s foyer design incorporates self-service ticketing booths and food areas. The stand-out feature is that all cinemas have 4K laser projection and modern high quality Dolby Atmos sound systems installed. Reclining seats are also standard in every cinema.

We were warmly welcomed by Anna, the Complex Manager, who highlighted these features, as well and the other attributes of this new complex. She then lead us on a tour of the cinemas before opening time.

There are two auditoria with large X-Treme screens (24 metres), with Cinema one seating 316 and Cinema two 286. These two cinemas have their own bio-box, while the other six smaller cinemas have drop-down projector enclosures from the ceiling. All of the smaller six cinemas have 57 seats with the décor and seating configurations identical.

After our CATHS group had seen all the cinemas, we were given a short digital presentation to highlight the capabilities of the sound and projection equipment.
