CATHS Participation in
OPEN HOUSE MELBOURNE
in conjunction with the PRAHRAN MECHANICS INSTITUTE
CATHS was pleased to be part of the Open House presentation at the Prahran Mechanics Institute (PMI) again this year. The Open House weekend is an annual event in Melbourne, with many buildings of historical note open for public inspection.
More than 60 people visited the joint display in the PMI and about half also visited our archive where we were able to show them photos of the cinemas that they remembered, or enquired about. One of the large photos in our display was of the Regent, South Yarra, and quite a few wanted to know where that was. Our old tickets, pass outs and programs also caused a lot of discussion. Interestingly there were quite a few younger visitors there too, and they were very interested in the photos and ads for the local theatres in Windsor and St Kilda. A girl in her 20s was seen kneeling in front of the display cabinets taking photos of our memorabilia.
