The city of Geelong is located 75 kms south west of Melbourne on the shores of Corio Bay - hence the naming of this theatre.

The Corio opened in 1938, and following the architectural style of the day, was built as an Art Deco style theatre.

The theatre was demolished in 1984 to make way for the Market Square shopping centre complex development
