This item is a Chas E Blanks “Talkie Slides” recording.

In the days before more sophisticated means were available,  “Talkie Slides” were a popular advertising format in cinemas throughout the country.

The record contained the commentary which accompanied a series of on-screen slides which generally advertised businesses in the area.

The screening of advertising slides was an important source of revenue for theatre owners, who generally contracted out the advertising to national companies who provided the slides and records. Chas E. Blanks Pty Ltd was one of a number of companies providing this service.

The record shown dates from 1955, and is from the Plaza Theatre Reservoir, Melbourne.

This record is one of several from various theatres held in the CATHS Archive.
