The Princess Theatre, 57 Brisbane Street, Launceston.

Built 1911 as predominately a live venue, but also screened films. 'Talkies' were introduced 2/07/1929.

The theatre was reseated and redecorated in March 1931. It was refurbished again in 1939-40 by Hoyts in Art-deco style.

The Princess was the first theatre in Launceston to have CinemaScope installed, opening with The Robe on 27/10/1954.

Film screenings officially ceased from 21/02/1970. The theatre was reopened as live venue in November 1970 after Launceston City Council bought building.

Films returned when a local projectionist entered into an arrangement with the council to screen films when it wasn't being used for other activities. This was done successfully for several years.

Air conditioning and re-roofing works were carried out in 2006.
